Growing up in East Anchorage, Alaska, Derrick was a promising high school athlete and a 4.0 GPA student before mistakes, bad decisions, and losses derailed his life. Prison and drug addiction were the result. After spending nearly a decade and a half as a drug addict or an inmate, Derrick made the decision that would change everything — he chose to fight for something greater than himself.
Now on the other side, clean and sober, Derrick has turned his life around establishing a voice within the drug addiction recovery community through his growing social media presence and speaking engagements. Spreading motivation, inspiration, and knowledge — all gained from lessons learned the hard way — Derrick has made it his life's mission to help those struggling.
